1968

Multimedia (Video, Makeup, Costume, Photography. 2019.

The year 1968 is known to be a turning point for our country’s government, politics, and society because of the tumultuous events that shaped this specific year. As I found myself familiarizing myself with the events that transpired in 1968, I realize how similar the reactions from 1968 to present-day could be to political and societal changes that are being documented live on radio or television. The difference I found and have thought about a lot is the impact of social media in present-day and how it also affects how we, as a country, react to historic events. I want to immerse myself into the year 1968 to somehow translate and interpret reactions that women potentially presented during the big events of 1968. I’ve been wondering why this topic interests me and it has
come down to two reasons. The first reason is that I have grown up with the culture of the ’60s because my mother and father were

both born in the mid-’60s and had older siblings who lived during the 60s. Not only have I seen many old photographs of the vintage outfits and the hair and makeup, but I’ve also noticed the feeling and emotion of the time by hearing stories and listening to music of that time. Initially having all this knowledge of the sixties has made me want to really explore what it really could’ve been like for women in 1968 because it makes me feel as though I can finally feel and revisit the past to figure out the present.
