Genealogy is the study of family origins and history, literally meaning race and family theory. This summer I dived into the rabbit hole that is Ancestry.com. I went 7 generations back in my family and discovered church documents, legal documents from the US, and US-Mexican border documents. Coming from a lineage of Mexican and Chicano descent, I was able to uncover great aunts and uncles’ names that have been passed down through my maternal and paternal grandparents.

Traditionally, on both sides of my family, aunts, uncles, cousins, and family friends come together to recount stories and jokes from generations past.

The sculpture and painting are all visual re-enactments of those stories and jokes that I will continue to pass onto my legacy.

Awesome that you took the time and energy to research your ancestry. History is definitely key, to know where I came from allows me to understand who I am in this world. I wonder if you got to uncover any indigenous blood lines?? Nice pieces..super creative..
